Andy passes heavy goods vehicle test with L&T sponsorship

Rothwell fork lift driver, Andy Bardsley (34) needed a new job when he was made redundant a year ago.

He was offered a position as a heavy goods vehicle driver at Tradeteam. However, there was a problem. Before he could accept, Andy needed to obtain his LGV licence to enable him to drive trucks!

With the incentive of a job, Andy signed up with Fitzwilliam-based lorry driver training school, L&T Transport Training Services.

Andy passes Class 2 test

In September 2017 he passed his Class 2 heavy goods vehicle test. This allows him to drive larger rigid lorries and was able to join Tradeteam in October.

Andy now still needed to pass his Class 1 licence that would permit him to drive large articulated vehicles. Which is where Jo Lloyd, managing partner of L&T Transport Training Services, stepped in.

Jo says: “I’d met Andy a few times as he went through his Class 2 training and saw how it had helped him to get a job. Our policy has always been to give something back to the local community. I felt this was the perfect opportunity to sponsor someone who had the promise of a developing career, once he had obtained the right driving skills and qualifications.”

Successful at Class 1 heavy goods vehicle test

Andy comments: “The generosity of everyone at L&T supporting me in this way nearly brought me to tears. I’d never dealt with this type of company before and now cannot recommend them highly enough.”

He continues: “When you look into what’s involved in getting your LGV licence it is quite daunting, but the staff at L&T do it all for you and this makes the process so easy.”

Founded in 1986, L&T Transport Training Services is a family-owned company that provides the full range of theory and practical training for heavy goods vehicle and coach drivers, lorry mounted crane (HIAB) training and in the handling and transportation of dangerous goods. It also provides car and trailer tuition for anyone wishing to tow safely. The Fitzwilliam site is also an approved DVSA test centre.
