Category D and D1 (Coach and Mini Bus) Training

To obtain a PCV (Cat. D or D1) licence, you must meet the following criteria:

  • You must be at least 18 years old
  • You must hold a full car licence (Cat. ‘B’)

You then need a provisional Cat ‘D’ licence and to obtain this, a medical will need to be undertaken. The licence application, along with the completed medical form, is then sent to the DVLA at Swansea.

The next stage is to take and pass the theory and hazard perception (hp) tests. When you attend our training centre for your medical, you will be supplied with a theory book, if you haven’t already got one. The theory and hp tests can only be booked upon receipt of the provisional entitlement and not before.

Once again, we can take the hassle out of booking a theory test, as we have tests pre booked up to 3 months in advance, so one can be allocated at a convenient time and place.

At L&T, we recommend that all candidates undertake a driving assessment that will enable our instructor to establish what training should be required. This training can be tailored to suit your own needs and for total flexibility, we operate 7 days a week and into the evenings. Practical tests are pre booked so that training can be arranged around the driving test.

There are two groups of PCV’s, basically mini-bus and coach. The same procedure for licensing, medical and training will be required to pass either category of vehicle.
