ADR Training - carrying regulated hazardous substances

To obtain an ADR licence to enable you to legally drive a goods vehicle over 3.5 tonnes GVW (gross vehicle weight) carrying regulated hazardous substances, you must hold or qualify for an ADR Vocational Training Certificate.

To obtain an ADR Training Certificate, all drivers must attend a Department of Transport approved course and pass the relevant Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) examinations.

The L&T course to obtain an ADR Certificate consists of 5 days of instruction in the dangers associated with the carriage by road of dangerous goods in tanks or packages.

The course covers core, tanker and package modules, plus up to seven specific substances modules.

  • Class 2 Substances – Compressed Gasses
  • Class 3 Substances – Flammable Liquids
  • Class 4 Substances – Flammable Solids
  • Class 5 Substances – Oxidising Substances & Organic Peroxides
  • Class 6 Substances – Toxic & Infectious
  • Class 8 Substances – Corrosive
  • Class 9 Substances – Miscellaneous Dangerous Substances

On the final day of training candidates will sit on-line examinations in our new computer suite.

The latest feature of the on-line examination process is the issue of results upon completion. This means you won’t have to wait weeks to find out if you’ve passed

The ADR licence is valid for five years. During the final year, holders are required to take a refresher course to re-validate the licence. This refresher can be done in 2 ways. You can sit on a 3 day refresher course or if you prefer (or are rusty) you can sit on our 5 day initial course at a special refresher rate

On-site training at your premises can be arranged if an adequate training area can be provided and there are at least six to ten delegates. Further details can be provided by L&T on request.

All training is delivered in a relaxed and friendly style by our own trainer. Trainees will receive a pack containing all required information and regular revision quizzes/sessions to ensure all candidates are properly prepared for the multiple choice exams at the end of the week.
